THE ICONIC HOTEL ASTORIA RENOVATED WITH RESPECT

Since the iconic Hotel Astoria, designed by architect Ole Falkentorp, was completed in 1934 at Copenhagen Grand Central Station, the building has been an icon for the city and for many architecture enthusiasts around the world. Squeezed into a 6-meter narrow site, the building is one of the best examples of functionalist architecture in Copenhagen and appears as a dynamic train along the rails leading into the grand central station.
Due to the fact of the building’s iconic status, it is with great respect and attention to the building’s architecture and history, that Brøchner Hotels has renovated the hotel’s rooms, hallways, lobby and bar, which is now in a modern reinterpretation of the original Hotel Astoria.
,,When you push yourself through the oldest revolving door in Copenhagen and enter Hotel Astoria, you are standing in a piece of history in the newly refurbished lobby bar where we have preserved and respected the building’s history and incorporated the history into the hotel’s new design,” says Søren Brøchner-Mortensen. As Director of Business Development and owner of Brøchner Hotels, he is responsible for discovering and developing old Copenhagen buildings into unique boutique hotels.
Søren Brøchner-Mortensen elaborates that much of Hotel Astoria’s interior dates to 1934 and has been preserved, such as the original marble floor, the wooden-doors to the rooms, the two small elevators, and Copenhagen’s oldest revolving door from 1934.

WHEN THE HOTEL BECOMES THE DESTINATION

At Brøchner Hotels they have noticed a tendency the lats couple of years, where the hotel has become the destination in itself.
