After a few years of stagnation, the formerly famous Hotel Astoria is going to become one of Copenhagen's most significant hotels again. the new owner, Brøchner Hotels, just started a great exterior reconstruction. in 2016, an interior reconstruction will follow.

Hotel Astoria, which is situated right next to the Central Station, is once again going to be a remarkable hotel that Copenhagen will be proud of. That is the opinion of Brøchner Hotels, the new owners of Hotel Astoria. The reconstruction and renovation of Hotel Astoria's exterior will bring it back to its original design.

For many years, Hotel Astoria was one of Copenhagen's design icons because of its remarkable architecture and reputation as a thrilling luxury hotel.

But lately the hotel has been run as a low-budget hotel which has resulted in a lack of respect and maintenance of the hotel's architectural qualities and hotel standards, says the CEO of Brøchner Hotels, Karim Nielsen.

3+ star boutique hotel

a result of the exterior reconstruction is that the hotel will regain its original look and color. The facade will be polished, a new roof and windows will be installed and there will be made doors for the balconies facing Reventlowsgade. And if the City of Copenhagen allows it, a rooftop terrace will be established. The exterior reconstruction will be finished by December 2014.

32 rooms will be renovated and a cozy lobby bar will be established with the interior reconstruction. This part of the hotel will be ready in the beginning of 2016.

After the interior changes, Hotel Astoria will become a 3+ star boutique hotel with several restaurants, bars, small meeting facilities and exciting designs. The target group is habitual travelers, traveling both on business and as tourists, who reach the city by flight or train and want to live in central Copenhagen. The concept has not been fully detailed yet but it will reflect Brøchner Hotels' mission of offering unusual and considerate hotel experiences. Among other things, this means that we respect the hotel's architectural and historical qualities and that we run the hotel in a way that reflects the atmosphere of the local which it is located, says Karim Nielsen.

An architectural masterpiece

Hotel Astoria was built in 1934-35 and drawn by architect Ole Falkentorp for DSP. Architectural historians find the hotel one of the greatest examples of functional architecture in Copenhagen. Squeezed in on a only 6 meters wide building ground, the long building almost appears like an impetuous, dynamic train itself next to the Central Stations and its rails - Hotel Astoria's closest neighbor.
